Whether you are just beginning your modeling career or have been at it for several years, there is one key element essential to your success: YOUR BOOKER! If you are a new face, it is absolutely essential that you establish yourself up front so the booker will be able to distinguish you from the many other models just starting out, as one by one the less serious models will begin to fall away and be replaced by a new crop. You need to stand out immediately.

“What’s the best way to make myself stand out,” you ask? It’s simple: Your booker must learn your voice, your face and your name in order to promote you properly. Depending upon which market you are based in, you should check in with your booker at least once a day and sometimes up to 8 times per day during season or if you are in a major market. There is an absolute direct correlation to how often you check in, and how often you will work. This isn’t rocket science.

Your goal should be to develop a close, personal, and mutually beneficial relationship with each booker in every market in which you work. Your booker is the one critical person who will decide whether or not to send you out on castings and/or bookings. If you can't get past your booker, you will have no modeling career. This person goes to bat for you on a daily basis, pushing and promoting you. How much harder will they work on your behalf if they believe in you as a model and like you as a person?

When you check in, don't be too chatty or monopolize the booker's time. Check in, get to the point of your call, and then hang up so they can get to work. Keep it short, sweet and to the point. When checking in remember to make your booker aware of your availability each day so they don’t waste time contacting you during times that you are unavailable or out of the market.

If you are going to model, you should already have a personal cell phone. If not, get one ASAP so your booker can reach you directly no matter where you are. Don't make them call your parents at home or work to find you. It’s not professional, and not the image you want to create regardless of your age. Remember to return your booker’s calls promptly.
