WHAT IS A MARKET FASHION SHOW?

The Atlanta Apparel Mart is "the Garment District" of the Southeast. This the place where buyers from leading department stores and specialty shops come to buy ready-to-wear and accessories for upcoming seasons. During markets for women's, children's, and men's markets, the Fashion Office produces all of the fashion shows. These shows are by far the toughest shows to work in Atlanta. We have no time to give direction to each model and rehearsals are brief. This is why we must have the best runway models booked for our show. The information included will help you learn about our shows.
The Market Shows are "live advertising" for the sales reps who are tenants in our building. There is a fee for each garment shown in the show. The sales reps in the showrooms pay the fees. If the sales rep is not pleased with the way YOU show his/her garments, we must refund his/her money. Models are booked for market shows based on several factors: experience and professionalism, attitude and cooperation, size and look, the number of outfits in the show, and the length of time allowed for the show. Some models are booked well in advance of market; some may be put on hold. Those on hold should contact the Fashion Office the night prior to the show, and if needed, they will be booked.

PREP FOR MARKET
For market and all runway bookings, our models are REQUIRED to have:
§ Model's bag- Be sure it is ready to go at all times. See the enclosed needs list for specific.
§ Shoes – Must be updated and in good shape. Your shoe wardrobe is part of your career investment. If you are in doubt as to what kind of shoes to buy,                    please ask.
§ Hose- Always keep a minimum of two pairs, each in:
§ Sheer nude
§ Sheer black
§ Sheer off-white
*TIP: Buy shoes that are easy to get into and are flattering to your legs. HAIR AND MAKEUP We normally have experts in, but always arrive almost complete. Clean Hair Is a Must. If a specific look is required in makeup, we will let you know.

LINGERIE AND SWIMWEAR
The Fashion Office will always let you know on your booking sheet. If you cannot do swimwear, lingerie or are limited let Amy know. Always remove the cover-up or robe on the runway, unless instructed otherwise.
REHEARSAL Be There On Time. NO EXCUSES ARE ACCEPTABLE. Lateness means a deduction from your pay. Rehearsals are normally 4:45-5:30 p.m. on the day of the show. If rehearsal is different, you will be notified. At rehearsal you will receive:
§ Models chart – This lists your line-up number, a description of each outfit, special accessories and instructions. It is your guide to what you are to wear, how to wear it, and when.
§ Models lineup- This is an outline of the entire show. It tells you what the scenes are, the numbers in each scene, who you follow, who you go out on stage with, or if you walk alone. NOTE: If your numbers are circled together, you MUST walk together on the runway. If your numbers are not circled together, you must walk by yourself. The brackets indicate who you enter the stage with.
*TIP: During rehearsal, make notes on your model's lineup so you can remember your instructions. KNOW WHICH SCENE EACH OUTFIT IS IN.
IN THE DRESSING ROOM: Upon arrival, find your assigned space and do not take up more space than you are allotted. Meet your dresser who will be helping you. Tell him/her where your quick changes are and that you will need his/her help. Use you models chart to double check that EVERY garment you are to wear is on your rack and in numerical order. Unbutton and unzip (or ask your dresser's help) every item so it is ready to be jumped into as quickly as possible. Line up the appropriate shoe for each outfit. Stylists will work with you. Layer your hose for quick changes. Remove all personal jewelry. We are not responsible for your personal property.
